Harley Dykstra’s Role in North McKail’s Urban Growth

Harley Dykstra’s Planning Team is thankful for the opportunity to be involved at the forefront of strategic urban planning and development in North McKail. While conducting planning work for a local owner of a substantial land parcel, our team identified a prime area of unconstrained land with significant potential for urban expansion. Recognising the opportunity to contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of the region, we embarked on a collaborative planning initiative with key stakeholders.

Through extensive consultation with the City of Albany’s Planning Team, the Mayor, and Councillors, Harley Dykstra has developed a preliminary master plan outlining a vision for the future of North McKail.

The Councillors and the City’s Planning Team have now initiated discussions with the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH) and state government ministers and agencies. Their goal is to secure funding and formal support for the preparation of a comprehensive District Structure Plan for this emerging precinct. Harley Dykstra remains committed to providing ongoing assistance and expertise to support the City of Albany so that the vision of a new master planned urban community for Albany may be realised.

A significant milestone was reached on 29 January 2025, when Planning Minister John Carey publicly announced via LinkedIn a substantial funding commitment of $825,000 towards the development of the North McKail District Structure Plan, if re-elected. This funding injection represents a major win for the greater Albany region, paving the way for much-needed residential land development. As the demand for housing continues to grow, this initiative will play a crucial role in addressing the ongoing housing shortage and ensuring a steady supply of affordable housing for future generations.
